Wildflower meadow, anyone?

Up by the road, the lawn has struggled to recover from the recent construction site activity.

Perhaps we should develop that strip into a wildflower meadow? See below for what it could look like during the spring and summer months. Let us have your thoughts.

Remembering Mike

We were saddened to hear recently that former resident, founder member and Chair of PETRA, Mike Davis, had passed away, aged 80.

Mike, a former Labour councillor will be most fondly remembered hereabouts for his and his wife Jan’s stewardship of PETRA over many years.

Mike turned the association into a Tenant Management Organisation in 2003, having taken over as Chair so that Jan could move to be a councillor herself, representing Elm Park. Mike remained Chair for the next 15 years, and it was only when ill health intervened that he stepped back from his leadership position. Very fortunately for PETRA residents, Jan was there to take over as Chair until the couple’s final retirement a few years ago, after which they moved on to Noak Hill.

Our estate improved significantly over the years that Mike and Jan led PETRA. Old school community activists to their fingertips, they nurtured a sense of community, creating opportunities for all manner of social activities to take place on the estate.

Mike (pictured above) and Jan recruited and oversaw our small team of paid employees, and they successfully lobbied for and oversaw multiple improvements to the fabric of the buildings and grounds.

In acknowledgement of their contribution, the couple were awarded the NFTMO (National Federation of Tenant Management Organisations) lifetime achievement award for their work setting up and leading the first TMO in Havering.

Mike, thank you for all that you did for PETRA over the years. Everyone here sends Jan and the family our heartfelt condolences.

Help with forms?
Some PETRA Committee members and our Estate Manager, Caroline, have a wealth of experience in different areas. For example we can help if you are unsure how to:
- fill in a form
- write a CV

- write a formal letter
- write a reference

Come into the PETRA office and see if we can help you.

A quick word from Kevin
I started working at PETRA as an Admin Assistant over the summer. What at began as a short term role has now continued into December, and I’m happy to keep supporting the organisation. Working here has helped me learn a lot about how PETRA works and the valuable work happening across the estate.

As I think about what’s next, I’m glad to stay with PETRA for now and help keep our services running smoothly. Thank you to all our tenants for your ongoing cooperation and positive attitude. Your patience, feedback, and daily interactions make our work easier and help the estate run smoothly. I look forward to supporting both the team and the community as we head into the new year, and to working together to keep our environment well managed and welcoming to everyone.

Introducing Adam
My name is Adam, and I recently joined Petra as part of the estate’s Maintenance and Cleaning team. I come from a background in building maintenance and I’m a fully qualified electrician by trade, with experience across a variety of hands-on roles within the industry. Since joining a little over two months ago, I’ve settled in really well and have enjoyed getting to know many of the residents around the estate. Everyone has been incredibly welcoming and supportive. Working at PETRA has been a breath of fresh air, and I’m looking forward to continuing to contribute to the community.

PETRA's Guide to
Rubbish and Recycling

Do you have trouble knowing what to put where? Then take a look at our new brochure, where all is explained.

Above: This is what happens when residents fail to dispose of their rubbish properly - a backlog of poorly-secured trash, much of it in the wrong place!

Please show pride in our estate by disposing of your rubbish properly.
